Artist's Statement...
“He who works with his hands
and his head and his heart is an artist.”
- St. Francis of Assisi
Throughout my childhood in southern New England, I was fascinated by artworks. I was drawn to my Dad's photography, the wonder of children’s book illustrations, the master works of great painters in art history and to the work of modern realists. I was inspired by the artworks and artists. I'm not that different than I was at age two, when I rendered Humpty Dumpty in crayon on a white cupboard. Only I now use paint, pencil and wood.
I find myself exploring new ways of creative expression, new mediums to paint on, new techniques to use. I love both the celebration of rich, bold, explorations of color, and subtle nuances of tone and hue. I love simple, strong composition and balance. I love a visual story. It is the story to be conveyed through art that inspires me to paint. I love the detail and the nuance of the descriptive line. The story, as it unfolds, as I begin each new painting, is my passion.
